Seals put on quite the show this morning in the harbor! Close to shore smaller gray seals chased schools of fish, circling around and diving into them again and again!

Way out midway across the harbor a couple massive (harbor?) seals (visible only in my binocs) are cruising leisurely! It’s been simply wonderful watching them as I sip a mug of Earl Grey!

I was buzz bombed by a very annoyed hummingbird who was stopping by to visit my patio garden! He flew in from the left, then quickly circled the camper and tried from the right. I ducked inside but he hasn’t returned yet.

Chris suggested we chase some lighthouses a bit further south, so we loaded up the pups and hit the road!

The first stop was the Fort Point Lighthouse near Stockton Springs!

There was a mournful wailing coming just offshore at the beacon. We broke out the binoculars but couldn’t definatively ID the flock of birds there. We strongly suspect common loons after hearing Merlins loon songs. Loon call

From there we drove onward towards Castine, crossing a suspension bridge with great ocean views!

Once in Castine we took Battle road past Fort George & its cannons down to Dice Head Lighthouse!

Castine is a sweet little place, very quiet & charming! Their signs asking people to drive slowly were a hoot!

On Bar Harbor we had seen a funny firewood sign “Local Organic Firewood”, Castine also has a similar sign – apparently “organic” firewood costs $1 more than regular firewood. All they need to do is add “Gluten Free” and double the cost!

We crossed onto Little Deer Isle to catch our last lighthouse of the day – Pumpkin Island Light! This brings us up to six lighthouses this year.

Bucolic scenes on the way back home, plus an exhausted pup pile!
