Walt & Migzie came to visit for the birding fedstival! Sadly our “full size bed” in the guest bedroom is a tad shorter & a tad narrower than a true full size but since most mornings our outings had a 6am start sleep was always gonna be a challenge, but we all had a great time anyhow!

very far, far away!

In all these bucolic scenes we were hearing a natural symphony as birds called, chirped, or melodically sang. We caught fleeting glimpses of over 90 species across the week!

A few little birds were loud and proud, perching in plain sight! I was so busy with spotting them with my borrowed binoculars that I never even attempted to get a photo with my phone!

Wally & Migzie gifted us this hysterically funny “Field Guide”! And I bought my own fantastic new Nikon Monarch 7 binoculars which made bird watching a total joy!

In the wee hours of the morning, the night before our final event, power went out.

Apparently the wires in the power pedestal had melted (!?!). But we found a temporary work around – plugging into the next site – and back to bed we went, but not before taking a photo of the full moon at first light!

the Puffin Palooza!!!
The Grand Finale of our Acadia Bird Festival was an amazing PUFFIN boat tour where our guide was Greg Miller – the actual guide who was played by Jack Black in the movie “The Big Year”! We saw hundreds of puffins! Up close and personal! Flying overhead like supersonic footballs with wings! Clumsily landing – awkward & gawky! So many other sea birds and the seals! Oh my, the harbour seals with their huge soulful eyes, watching us curiously! Greg and his huge smile!

We scored a lovely lighthouse AND acquired an adorable puffin to live in the Maine Mansions Maine-themed dining nook!

A practically PERFECT ending to a fabulously fun week!
