Gardening in a Heat Wave

The weather has been unrelenting the last three weeks. Temps in the mid to high 90’s. Next to no precipitation (3 short showers in as many weeks).

The watermelons, pumpkins and melons are thriving in the garden! A pumpkin is already growing.

However the squash in the deck pots are suffering as their roots bake, so this morning we freed them – hoping they can recover with their toes deep in cool earth. Also praying, likely in vain, that the deer and rabbits don’t discover them outside our bedroom window…

Potatoes, tomatoes, okra, jalapeno and sweet potatoes are still thriving in their pots.

We also have limes ripening & dill flowering!

And orchids bursting into bloom!
