Clan2026 – Vermont

If we base at Lake Champlain, near Burlington:
Island Line Trail: Hop on this spectacular 14-mile trail along Lake Champlain. The Island Line Trail follows Burlington’s waterfront via the Burlington Greenway and heads out on the beautiful Colchester Causeway three miles into the middle of the lake! Public beaches, natural areas, and scenic vistas abound. Take Local Motion’s Island Line Bike Ferry to cross “the Cut,” a 200-foot gap in the causeway, and then continue on your way.

Fishing:
Lake Champlain is commonly known as one of the world’s top Smallmouth Bass fisheries, but landlocked Salmon, Lake Trout, Northern Pike, and Walleye are also plentiful. There’s also trophy trout to be caught in the beautiful rivers and babbling streams or among the tributaries of the big lake. There are plenty of fishing opportunities within the city limits, from the Burlington Fishing Pier to the Salmon Hole, excellent angling opportunities await you in the Green Mountain State.

Museum: Also right at Lake Champlain is Shelburne Museum – a totally eclectic collection well worth a visit!!

When Mrs. Webb founded Shelburne Museum in 1947, it was at first a place to preserve her family’s collection of horse-drawn carriages. Before long, however, she realized that she had a rare opportunity to create what she described as a “collection of collections”

From the countryside throughout New England and New York, Mrs. Webb found historic buildings that would provide appropriate settings for her collections, and she relocated them to the Museum grounds: houses, barns, a meeting house, a one-room schoolhouse, a lighthouse, a jail, a general store, a covered bridge, and the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga. She worked with a landscape design team to situate them within a welcoming environment that today includes a lush gardens and enticing views.

Of particular interest to BA & Rob, the museum has a collection of more that one hundred historic Vermont firearms created by seventy gunmakers between 1790 and 1900! Hunting guns, target rifles, and military guns from the Mexican-American and Civil Wars are included.
