Castillos de San Marcos & Washington Oaks Gardens

Our second Spanish fortress made from coquina limestone! By comparison this fort is a giant and Fort Mantanzas is a leprechaun.

Washington Oaks Garden State Park

The next day we explored Washington Oaks Gardens park. There was a mile long trail thru a fabulous untainted slice of old Florida plus a lovely formal garden!

Ancient oaks dripping with spanish moss were everywhere, interspersed with palm trees and palmettos. The oak limbs were topped with masses of resurrection ferns! We even saw, albeit briefly, an armadillo!

We stumbled upon a wedding in the formal gardens. A truly lovely space for it!
