Another practically perfect day in paradise! I swear the Maine coast is every bit as lovely as the Oregon coast! I would never have believed it possible, but it’s true! Absolutely takes your breath away.

This morning we captured Owls Head Lighthouse! Our 15th light of the trip(!) It is perched atop the cliff overlooking Penobscot Bay, an awesome vista in all directions!

Sailboats drifting elegantly across the bay, seagulls floating effortlessly through the air, gentle breezes. Simply perfect in every way!

Our next stop was the Maine Lighthouse Museum, a fascinating place with the largest collection of fresnell lenses in the country!

It also told stories of Maine lighthouse keepers and their families. What a life they had!

And it introduced us to Project Puffin! So of course we had to walk over to The Project Puffin Visitor Center! It celebrates the success of Project Puffin in bringing Atlantic Puffins and other seabirds back to their historic nesting islands in the Gulf of Maine!

Project Puffin was founded in 1973 by the National Audubon Society and has successfully reestablished puffins on six Maine islands from which they were exterminated more than a century ago. Project Puffin has had amazing success and its methodologies have been used worldwide to restablish colonies of seabirds that human activity had destroyed. So – how cool is that?

Now we’re at our home for the next three days, the Bar Harbor KOA. Our site is not as exquisite as the one pictured but we can see the water. Just finished doing laundry and am ready to kick back and relax! But I’ll leave you with the two newest stickers on the fridge!
