More Maine!

Today was the Maine of my dreams! Perfect weather – clear skies & sunny; warm but not hot! After taking the boys for morning walkies we popped the camper so Rex & Rick could enjoy cool, mellow camp life while we chased lighthouses!

Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse

Our first sighting was Cape Elizabeth lighthouse, currently privately owned, but we were able to see it from a rocky beach in front of a Coast Guard station!

We wanted to check out the Lobster Shack restaurant across the road, which sadly wasn’t open yet but we found it had the most exquisite ocean views!

Lobsta Shack!

Waves 8-10 feet tall were crashing ashore thanks to hurricane Erin! It was totally magnificent! The beauty & power of the ocean were staggering, and we had it almost entirely to ourselves! Perfection!

Mesmerizing! We finally managed to tear ourselves away and meander over to Portland Head Lighthouse (famed as the most photographed lighthouse in Maine!). It IS a beautiful lighthouse!

Portland Head Lighthouse

We walked the trails along the cliffs edges where we could also see Halfway Rock light and Ram Island Ledge Light!

We drove into Portland for lunch on the pier at J’s Oyster Bar where we enjoyed peppery clam chowder and lobster scampi over linguini while gazing out over the harbor! Very indulgent, rich, and incredibly scrumptious!!!

Portland Breakwater Lighthouse

Bellies full we waddled over to catch the Portland Breakwater light! As a bonus we also got the Spring Point Ledge light! Which brought our total to SIX for the day and TWELVE for this trip!

Seriously, from any cliff overlooking the water, there are *many* lighthouses dotting the shores and rocky islands!

Back at camp we loaded the camper back on the truck to prepare for tomorrows adventures, but, honestly, today has been absolutely perfect!

We’ve seen all except Goat Island!
